Long Arm Ball

Yes..... Long Arm Ball.  It isn't a typo.  It's something I came up with one day when I was looking at old family photos.  One Christmas morning when we were all opening presents, I stumbled across an empty wrapping paper tube.  I had a pair of gloves lying on the floor and I picked one up and stuck it on the tube.  My nephew Billy was about 3 years old and was my guinea pig when it came to making things, so I took the tube with the glove on it and stuck it on his arm (see photo).

First Long Arm I stuck on my nephew Billy (check out my geeky Lazer Tag vest)

This was pretty funny because he was running around the house trying to pick stuff up and was knocking things down in the process.  Well one day I was trying to come up with another game or event I could set up.... then I happened across this picture.  I thought it would be interesting to have 2 teams of 5 (4 runners and 1 goalie) to play a game of what I'd call Long Arm Ball.  It would be a kind of tryout to see if it works.  I'd post it on this page as The L.A.B. Experiment!  The runners would have 2 long arms with some type of gloves at the end and the goalies would have 1 long arm and carry a shield on the other arm.  The ball would be one of the type you'd see in a K-Mart in those tall steel cages.  Roughly the size of a kick ball.  This would be good if you swung the arm really quick which would make the ball take off.  Also because the ball is rubber it would cling to the hands better than a plastic one (and you can hit someone with it really hard without killing them).  Another aspect of this type of ball is that it never seems to go straight.  Instead of using cardboard tubes, the arms would be made of PVC pipe with padding around it.  The goalies shield would be one of those round metal sleds we used as kids (the type where you had no control going down a hill).  It would be a crazy sight and I can guarantee that it would attract spectators if we played in a public field.  Who knows, it might be the new craze!  Maybe I'm just going off the deep end?  I'll post more soon.  Got any ideas?  Let me know!
